Custom Gespaa

Don't forget that you can also customise the Gespaa theme.

Before and after screenshot

The effects of about 5 minutes work can be seen on this very site. The picture is the same one that I had as a header before the redesign.

For future reference (in case the design changes again), I've also uploaded screenshots so that you can compare the default look of the theme with how it looks after some minor customisation. If you have an interesting customisation of the theme, feel free to post a comment with a link to your site.

    Hi Phu. I’ve been using and customizing your great theme. Thanks a lot! There are some problems with sidebar in Opera (i don’t use it, i just check everything i do with different browsers :)), but i think i’ve figured them out. Feel free to check my CSS anytime. Cheers.

    Nice site, Henri! I like what you’ve done with the theme.

    i tried to integrade this plugin into your Gespaa theme ( http://www.tedpearson.com/blog/?p=794 ) but it didnt work. Do you know why it is difficult. In Kubrick and other Themes it works normal…

  8. Gravatar scape March 17th, 2005 4:25 am

    Thanks for the theme. Take a look at my site and you’ll see what I have done :) (Though the site is finnish language but…)

    I’m customising this as we speak… It’ll proberbly ruin the theme, so I’m changing the link at the bottom to “Using a modified theme originally designed by Phu Ly” like you’ve done here… I’ll post the finished one when the user who’s image I’m trying to aquire gets bacl to me.

    At my address (link in my name) I have a slightly customized version of Gespaa v2. Namely and mainly:
    - the top image;
    - the fonts — specially giving atention to providing alternative Linux fonts, like Bitstream Vera Sans as a backup for possibly inexisting Verdana;
    - some colors — I like blue, that’s one of the main reasons for having chosen Gespaa, so I didn’t go away from it, but, for instance, I gave a more ‘alive’ tone of blue to links, so they are more clearly distinct from plain ’strong’ text;
    - pages’ links now display on the top bar;
    - added <? wp_head(); ?> to the header template, so that the Comment Quicktags plugin would work — maybe a fix to think about;
    - Older Entries plugin, customized a bit like yours;
    - Table of Contents plugin, customized to be of the same style as the Older Entries table;
    - By default, images in the body of posts float to the left, even though I haven’t been adding images to my posts lately anyway.

    Hope you like it ;)

    Good work João and Scape! It’s nice to see what everyone is doing with the theme.

    Jeremy Poradek has also released Jespaa, a theme which is based on Gespaa so feel free to take a look at that as well.

    Updated Site Look

    I have updated the look of this site… This is a heavily modified version of the Gespaa - 2 Column theme. I widened it to make it more readable (I disagree with most of the narrow width designs since they make the page MUCH less readable in my …

    Thanks so much for the great theme, Phu! I added several randomly chosen header images, reformatted the pages slightly, and will be working on the color scheme next. Thanks for setting a solid foundation to build from. Your work is appreciated.

    Hi, i converted gespaa theme to another weblog platform: Dotclear.

    You can see it in action on my website.

    I was just wondering how one went about with the aforementioned ‘minor customisation’. I mean, don’t intend to offend anyone but, mentioning that is quite redundant because if someone knew how to do it, they wouldn’t need to be told that they could do a ‘minor customisation’. And if someone didn’t know how to do it, telling them that a ‘minor customisation’ could be done would be pointless if one didn’t accompany it with a brief, ‘how to’.

    I absolutely LOVE this theme btw, and will be recommending it to WP. ‘Elegant’ is definitely the word.

    It’s actually pretty easy to get gespaa with 2 columns to work with Lazy Gallery

    Step 1: Add this to the stylesheet

    .narrowcolumn {
            float: left;
    	padding: 0 0 30px 35px;
    	margin: 0px;
    	width: 470px;
    	}

    This is actually just a copy of #maincontent

    Step 2: Edit the header template and remove

    <div id="maincontent">

    (it’s at the very end)

    Step 3: Edit the main template. Add

    ?><div id="maincontent"><?php

    AFTER the line containing

    get_header();

    And thats it! Have fun :)

    I love the 2 column Gespaa theme — thank you very much for providing it for our public and free use! Quick modification question: where can I find the markup to edit the header section (like where the blog name and description area is)? I would normally look in header.php, but in the gespaa v2 theme, this file is very bare, and doesn’t include the typical header info (stylesheet links, meta tags etc.)… Where the heck is that stuff? I’m sorry for the dumb question, but I’ve been looking forever! Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

    I used this theme as a base and brightened it up a little for Miamity.com. I thought the layout and the style was perfect. Thanks for getting me started!

  23. Gravatar Diana November 5th, 2005 6:52 pm

    Thanks for your theme. I’m an absolute dummy but I think I got it working :-)

    Have a look (it’s in Dutch and I wrote it for my husband)

  24. Gravatar Shawna December 6th, 2005 9:19 am

    I love your themes Phu… you have done a wonderful job.Do you ever intend to release your present theme, maybe once you’re done with it, or in another color?

  25. Gravatar Jaras December 10th, 2005 7:18 pm

    Hey, thanks for the theme. I added a few things, maybe I’ll tweak some more in time. Have a look if you want.

  28. Gravatar Jorge Pena June 10th, 2006 2:25 am

    Hey, I love this theme. I’ve modified it a bit myself, just a bit. I really really want to make the whole thing a bit wider, I was playing with the CSS file and added 100 pixels to each thing I thought was required, but I still don’t seem to get it, any help would be nice, thanks for the great theme.

  29. Gravatar Kevin June 22nd, 2006 1:53 am

    I too tried to extend the theme, but it didn’t really turn out right. As well, I was wondering where you edited the top image.

  30. Gravatar Jerome June 29th, 2006 10:11 am

  33. Gravatar dk July 21st, 2006 7:28 pm

    hi dudes, first of all it’s a really nice theme! i’ve customized by just replacing the header graphic. so my problem is that the graphic beside the content actually known as the sideborder don’t wrap right, it just wraps to the end of the sidbar and not to the end of the page. as you can see on my homepage. any ideas?

    greets
    dk
